Why not shop for pets?

Shopping for pets looks very nice and fun when you visit a pet store nearby. Lets take puppies as an example. When you visit the store to look around to purchase a pet dog to be part of your family, all the puppies look so cute and happy wagging their tails at you giving you that look which makes you feel thier need for love and family. It's human nature to actually focus and feel the current situation more then to think how they landed here.

All this puppies are actually being supplied by puppy mills. What are puppy mills? Puppy mills are places where all the parent dogs of this puppies are kept for breeding purposes. They function like factories doing manufacturing. But not exactly like factory environments. This puppy mills consist of hundred of cages which are used to store the dogs and have specific areas where breeding takes place. It is even worst then prisons when compared. Looks more like slums due to poorly maintained hygene condition.

However, there are some puppy mills which maintains good hygene and places for dogs to live in. But just imagine, what if your where brought into this world by your parents and supplied to shops while your parents are retained in a poorly maintained facility. You will be bought and raised by some one who feels the need of your presence and love while your parents are stuck to reproduce their entire lives just to produce more children like you and they live in the slum till death. Does this sound fair, nice, happy or humane?

Why am i comparing ourselves to pets? Let them be any pets or even us, we all have feelings and instincts. The only difference between them and us are we can communicate effectively and display our likes and dislikes, feelings and emotions, and needs but they can't. Does that mean we are right by doing what we think is right and we can continue buying their kids while indirectly supporting this cruel practice of breeding grounds and puppy mills torturing their parents to reproduce till death in a confined unhygenic place? I believe your answer is NO. All i am trying to say is they too have feeling and emotions like we do. Although the puppies are happy with their owners who bought them, what about the parents used in the process of breeding? aren't they lives too? What makes them deserve this if you or me don't?

Take a look at the video below and refer to the text beside and relate to it!

Put yourself into the shoes of the pets in the video.

Take a look and try to put yourself in thier positions. The pain and the sadness in their faces. Just feel yourself in that position for your entire live till death. If you were not found and rescued, What will you do? what will happen to you and what is the purpose and meaning of your life in this situation?

You may wonder why am i asking you to put yourselves in the same position as the pets in the video. What is the neccesity? The reason is because of we humans practice and fancy owning a pet of a specific breed to satisfy our visual pleasure and we name it favourite. The word favourite means to favour. When we use it on things like food and clothes it's still classified favourite. But lets look at it on a different category level. Can you say your right eye is favourite compared to your left eye? We can also look at it from a more related perspective to pets. Your CHILDREN. Can someone say their son is thier favourite compared to their daughter? If the answer is yes, can they ignore the their daughter's well being because the son is thier favourite compared to their daughter?

I am sure nobody does that. If they do that, it's labelled as favourism instead of favourite. Same goes for pets. We humans tend to classify pets under the favourites in terms of breed and looks. This is the root of the problem. When people in the trade of breeding pets to meet our requirements are doing this just for the sake of business and not passion, they tend to focus on the quantity produced to meet thier profit expectations. this is the cause of our populating their mills with pets of different breeds and focusing to produce more quantity of the breeds in demand. The pets' welfare and conditions are being neglected as the can't report or leave if they want to. They will be trapped and forced to breed or even ended up being killed if thier behaviour turns violent in the process of this heartless businessmen trying to hit their sales targets and profit margins.

If you have been following so far, you should have started realising that every cruelty and inhumane act which we feel angry and affected about is starting from us unknowingly. We are the source. It begins from us. We have to start somewhere so that this cruelty can end somewhere. The first step to the beginning is to stop shopping or buying pets from shops which are mainly focused on their profits and sales. What we are looking at the petshops are the survivors of all this cruelty from puppy mills. Is it fair to kill and toture so many lives for satisfying one of us? Now put in a larger scale. lets take it as 1000 people from singapore are buying 1 pet each. It adds up to 1000 pets. to produce thousand pets, puppy mills operation breeds up 1500 puppies atleast to get a perfect enough looking 1000 pets which looks good enough to sell. What happens to the other 500? they won't be used for breeding as the colours are not nice or maybe we can put it as they don't look sellable and breeding them will likely have puppies looking like them due to genetics. Which means they won't be sellable as well. so what happens to them?

You shoud have been able to guess by now if you were with me. They will be stuck in there for their entire life till death if lucky enough that the mill which breeds them practice no killing. If they do, they will be killed. Both ways are painful. Coming back to the topic, we are causing thousands of deaths to have that one dream pet that we want.

Pets and domestic animals do have emotions like us!

Look at their faces showing faith and hope to their rescuers.
Pure Happiness!

This video shows a rescue from a puppy mill and what kind of environment that they are kept in. It also shows the process after the rescue till all of the puppies were adopted and brought back to gather at a location 1 year later for a reunion. Keep you focus on their emotions and the way they love and trust the same species (we humans) that put them through all this years hell. Will you be able to do that if you were kidnapped for generations and another person comes over and tell you that he or she is here to help? Will you Trust them after all this hell a human put you through? I am sure you won't be able to. Because you will know you were harmed and used all this while.

But just look at the happiness in their faces and trust they put on their rescuers despite all the cruelty they where put through. Look at them longing for the love and touch of care and concern when the rescuers approach. Feel the welcome they gave the rescuers even though grieving on pain. They pure love given even if an enemy approaches. Not every human would be able to this. We should learn from them and love them more for teaching us that life is about believing and sharing the love and happiness with all living species that deserve to be loved even though what life puts you through. What are we doing instead?

Instead of appreciating the lessons not only puppies but all pets teach us, we as humans show our selfish side of wanting what we like or want based on our satisfaction regardless of the lives at it's purest form as pets being killed in the process of finding our favourite breeds or types. Isn't it the same as racism and sexism? favourising what we like regardless whoever you done favour are killed. Even though it's not infront of your eyes but you know some where someone is totured and killed, will you be able to accept that it's because of your needs that they die and you are ok as long you get what you want? If you can, now put yourself in the postion of a breeding dog in the puppy mill. You are tortured to breed and your spouse is shared to make babies of a different kind because nasty people with money don't care what happens and they want what they like. How will you feel?

The key aim of all this explanations is using you is because to RELATE to the situation. Don't get me wrong. Hope if you arre narrow and didn't think this far, this article would open you up. Think. Believe in religions and gods are all part of a teaching and i am sure no religion or god told you or me or anyone to ignore and live. It's all about sharing and showing not man made wealth but The love and being considerate to other life forms by not causing them pain, hurt or any form of inconvenience because it's your favourite. Money is created by humans to trade and benefit and have a goal to work for or achieve. Not to misuse by setting price tags to lives.

If god ask you for a price for everyone in your life like a child or wife or mom etc... Will you be able to live your daily life peacefully? If you were poor like me, at the above situation i would rather die. So please value every life form in a way shares love with you. doesn't matter what they look like. If you are adopting a pet and you choose which one you love the most is fine as there won't be any suffering involved. You may not like it but another person will like. It won't kill or torture the rest. The least we can do to share this love and preserve humanity is to start adopting. Life is too short to regret so love while you live!

The whole idea is to stop shopping for pets to end this cruelty!

In every part of life, let it be in any form like humans or pets, it is a cycle. What do i mean by cycle? It's a reaction chain. When we stop shopping for pets, the petshops will have difficulty selling them and they will reduce orders from breeders and puppy mills. When this happens, puppymills or breeder start slowing down their their process of breeding which equals to lesser breeders and puppy mills in operation. which reduces cruelty to pets. Of course there are other steps involved to prevent exsisting pets being abandonned. But all of it starts at the first step of adoption. Love is meant to be shared but not to be sold and fixing a price tag to it.

Only a finger is needed to point but you need hands to clap. It all starts some where. Please start adopting as 1 becomes 100s. 100s becomes 1000s. Don't wait for a leader. Start living as an example and be a good leader to the future generations. Teach them the value of love and humanity. No matter how rich you are, money can't buy qualities or love. Money is a material which helps you show love in certain ways by donating or fostering but not to buy love like pets. Please don't treat lives as material that you can buy using money!
